Fight against malaria: donation of US $ 1.8 million

Through the Presidential Malaria Initiative (PMI) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the US government yesterday announced a donation of medical supplies in the amount of 1.8 million dollars to the Department of Public Health.
More than 2 million Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) as well as nearly 2 million treatments in the form of combination therapy and artemisinin make up this donation. With these tests and treatments, the results are known within 15 minutes and positive cases will be taken care of immediately. USAID’s “Impact” health project ensures their distribution throughout Madagascar, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health.
“As we currently fight the Covid-19 epidemic, we must continue to be vigilant in the face of other threats to our health and safety. Malaria remains a major challenge and a risk for the health and well-being of the Malagasy population, ”said US Ambassador Michael P. Pelletier.
In the first six months, more than a million people were infected with malaria in Madagascar, of which more than 600 died.
