Doha: England beat Wales in the pre-quarters of Group B in the World Cup to become the group champions. The United States also reached the quarterfinals after beating Iran in another match yesterday. England defeated Wales by three goals to one while the USA defeated Iran by one goal. England are first in the group with seven points and the USA are second with five points.
After a goalless first half, England defeated Wales in the second half. Phil Foden scored the third goal for England while Marcus Rashford scored twice. England’s progress was seen from the start of the second half. The first goal was scored in the 50th minute. Marcus Rashford scored a free kick for bringing down Phil Foden. Another goal in seconds. Harry Kane’s cross filled Foden in the net. Wales got up and fought back but missed their target. Rashford scored again for England in the 68th minute.
The United States kicked out Iran
In a closely contested match, the United States overcame the challenge of Iran and won by a single goal. Christian Pulisic scored the goal in the first half. In the 38th minute Pulisic puts the USA ahead after shaking the Iranian goal. Iran had golden opportunities in the second half but failed to score.
In the preliminaries, England will face Group A runners-up Senegal and the United States, Group A champions the Netherlands.
