The FIFA Referee Committee has released a list of 18 referees and 36 assistant referees for 2023 U-17 World Cup which was held in Indonesia. Unfortunately, in FIFA’s release on Wednesday (27/9), there was not a single referee from Indonesia who served as center referee or assistant referee.
The 2023 U-17 World Cup will be held in Indonesia from 10 November to 2 December 2023.
Ahead of the 2023 U-17 World Cup, the FIFA Referee Committee has released 18 referees, 36 assistant referees and 18 VAR referees who will be on duty in the event.
For the list of 18 center referees, the FIFA Referee Committee appointed three center referees from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), three referees from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), three referees from the Confederation of North American, Central American and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF) .
Then four referees came from the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), and five referees from the European Football Confederation (UEFA).
Unfortunately, none of the Indonesian referees have been assigned as main referee, assistant referee or VAR referee assigned by FIFA for the 2023 U-17 World Cup.
The three Indonesian referees who will be involved in the U-17 World Cup are Aprisman Aranda, Thoriq Alkatiri and Yudi Nurcahya. However, the three Indonesian referees only served as Support Referees or supporting referees. FIFA also does not explain the duties of supporting referees.
Chairman of the FIFA Referee Committee Pierluigi Collina hopes that the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia can become an important tournament for FIFA referees.
“We are looking forward to the first FIFA tournament to be played in Indonesia because this will be an important tournament for our referee team. Referees will also be part of the overall history of the U-17 World Cup that this country will leave behind,” said Collina of FIFA website.
