Fiberklaar wants to provide 1.5 million Flemish houses with fiber optics in 7 years – Tablets and telephones – News

The Flemish company Fiberklaar wants to provide one and a half million Flemish families with a fiber optic connection by 2028. The development of an open fiber network will start this year.

Fiber ready invests a total of more than 2.5 billion euros to be used for the expansion and operational costs of the fiber optic network. This network will be open to all operators and, according to the company, must ensure that Flanders catches up with its backlog in the field of fiber optic connections, compared to other European countries.

The construction will first take place in those municipalities where the consumer demand for such a connection is greatest. Fiberklaar wants to start in ten Flemish cities and municipalities in 2021, three of which will be announced in April.

Local residents of these cities and municipalities are given the opportunity to subscribe to the offer of participating service providers prior to the construction of the fiber optic network. Those who do this do not have to pay connection costs for the connection.

Proximus and the Swedish EQT are main shareholders of the company. Proximus will offer services from the start of the project. In March last year announced the Belgian telecom operator indicated that it wanted to accelerate the roll-out of the Belgian fiber optic network. Then Proximus brought forward its own deadline to provide 2.4 million Belgian homes with fiber optic connections by 2030 and announced that it was looking for partners who would eventually found in the Netherlands.
