Feyenoord’s next intervention: nets around the entire field in all remaining home matches | Dutch football

Feyenoord has again made an intervention itself to prevent new problems. The leader of the Eredivisie has decided to shield the playing field with posts and nets on all four sides during the remaining home games of this season.

Coming Sunday (8 p.m.) this will already be applied during the match against RKC Waalwijk. The Rotterdam club is forced to take this drastic measure due to the announcement of new, strict protocols in the field of playing safety, which were communicated yesterday by the KNVB and are effective immediately. Tonight FC Groningen – FC Utrecht is on the program at the start of round 28 in the Eredivisie. Wouter Gudde, general manager of FC Groningen, already told RTV Noord that he is holding his breath for new problems, after almost all home games went wrong in recent weeks.

The new regulations of the KNVB dictate that repeated misbehavior from the public such as throwing objects can lead to the permanent abandonment of matches. In view of this, Feyenoord does not want to take any risks, especially given the great sporting interests that there are for the club in the competition.

Feyenoord will play four more home games in the Eredivisie, in which it has an eight-point lead over pursuers Ajax and PSV after 27 rounds. Feyenoord is also still in the Europa League, in which AS Roma is the next opponent. The club already announced yesterday that the 2000 places on the parterre sections Z1 to Z4 will remain empty for next Thursday’s home game.

Feyenoord is now in consultation with ESPN to realize the best possible image registration, despite the very short time frame that the television channel has to adapt to this new situation. During the Classic on Sunday 22 January (1-1) in the premier league, many television viewers complained about the high camera angle.

For the Classic in the quarter-finals of the TOTO KNVB Cup, Feyenoord therefore decided to omit the nets on the side of the dug-outs, so that the camera position could remain the same. It meant that Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen could be hit shortly after the break by a lighter thrown from the audience, after which the Classic was stopped for half an hour.
