Fewer voters voted abroad than in Saeima’s 13 elections

In the 14 elections in Saeima, out of 916,594 voters, 26,189 citizens participated abroad, while in the 13 elections in Saeima, 31,515 citizens participated abroad on election day.

On the other hand, relatively fewer voters – 22,699 – participated in the 12 elections of the Saeima on election day.

However, not all votes sent by post were registered with foreign voters of the 14th Saeima. In the 13 Saeima elections, in addition to the 31,515 foreign votes registered on election day, 431 votes were received by post, while in the 12 Saeima elections, 417 votes were received by post.

It has already been reported that 916,594 citizens, or 59.43% of voters, participated in the fourteen Saeima elections in Latvia.

The highest turnout was in Vidzeme, where 66.26% of voters voted, followed by Kurzeme – 63.85%, Zemgale – 62.72%, Latgale – 57.14%, but the lowest turnout it was atypically in Riga, where only 52.82 people went to vote. .

In the 13 Saeima elections held four years ago, 54.5% of eligible Latvian citizens voted and it was the least attended election in the history of restored Latvia.

The highest turnout was at the 5 Saeima elections, when 89.9% of eligible voters voted, and it has continued to decline ever since. 71.9% of eligible Latvian citizens participated in the 6th Saeima elections in 1995 and 71.89% of eligible voters participated in the 7th Saeima elections. In the 8 elections of the Saeima in 2002, 71.51% of the voters participated, in the 9 elections of the Saeima – 60.98%, in the 10 elections of the Saeima – 63.12%, in the 11 elections of the Saeima – 59.45% and at the 12 Saeima elections – now only 58.85% of all eligible voters.

According to information currently available on the CVK website, the “New Unity” party could have won 26 terms in the next Saeima, the Union of Greens and Farmers – 16, the “United List” – 15, the National Union – 13, “Stability!” – 11, “Progressives” – 10 and “First Latvia” – 9 terms.
