Fewer patients in the clinics, some outbreaks in homes – Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district

The number of Covid-19 patients in the clinics in the Freiburg region falls again slightly / Corona cases in retirement homes in Kirchzarten, Ihringen and Sulzburg.

(cos/max). The number of Covid-19 patients in the clinics in the Freiburg region has fallen for the eighth week in a row. On Thursday, the Freiburg University Hospital reported 73 patients for the regional hospitals in the city and in the two districts of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen. At the beginning of December there were 123 and in the previous week 77.

The number of people being ventilated in the intensive care units also fell from 30 in the previous week to 25. In December, almost twice as many people were being ventilated. Most of the patients are still in the Freiburg University Hospital.

In the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald there are a few corona cases in senior living facilities. In the Oskar-Saier-Haus in Kirchzarten, 15 senior citizens and five employees tested positive for the corona virus, as Thilo Jakob, press spokesman for the Caritas Association Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, announced on Thursday. The first cases were discovered at the beginning of the year as part of the quick tests that are carried out daily by the employees.

According to the management of the home, the first case occurred on January 7th in the “Haus am Weingarten” care home in Ihringen. Five residents and six employees have now tested positive for the corona virus. In Sulzburg, 16 of the 36 residents of the nursing home and seven employees were infected with the corona virus. After symptoms were noticed in one person here on January 10, all residents and employees were then tested.

In all three facilities, there is talk of mild to symptom-free courses. A boosted person in their mid-80s died in the Oskar-Saier-Haus. Since she was multimorbid and had a large number of diseases, it can be assumed, according to Jakob, that she would have died from any other infection.

It is unclear how the outbreaks in Kirchzarten and Sulzburg could have happened. The home management in Ihringen could imagine that the infection was carried to the nursing home by newcomers who were only vaccinated twice.
