Fewer passengers in the PNV

The mobility offers in the Main-Tauber district are not used or only to a limited extent due to the corona. The drop in passenger numbers has an impact, for example, on the hourly trial run on the Frankenbahn, according to a press release from the District Office. If not enough passengers are counted in the test run by December 2022, the state of Baden-Wrttemberg will consider reducing the number of passengers again. Therefore, the Main-Tauber-Kreis district office asks you to make intensive use of the offers after the corona pandemic, for example the Frankenbahn, the evening bus offer parallel to the Tauberbahn or the services of the mobility center in Bad Mergentheim.

The Main-Tauber-Kreis is responsible for the PNV and supports local rail passenger transport (SPNV). While the Main-Tauber district finances the bus services, the state of Baden-Wrttemberg, represented by the Ministry of Transport, is responsible for the local rail transport.

Compulsory task of the circle

The backbone of public mobility is school traffic. It is a compulsory task of the district, which we fulfill by bus and rail as well as exempted school transport in minibuses, explains District Administrator Reinhard Frank. Around 100 buses are in use every weekday, serving around 1000 stops. Around 12,300 people are transported every day. Around 100,000 monthly Maxx tickets are sold every year. Then there are commuters and leisure traffic.

We are pleased that the sale of single tickets is increasing, reports Head of Department Jochen Mssig from the Main-Tauber District District Office. This documents that the PNV with its bus, train and taxi services is well received. Nevertheless, the PNV is mostly used by passengers with network and season tickets.

In order to increase the attractiveness of the PNV, the district offers additional special services. This includes, for example, the subsidy for the commuter ticket for young people who live in the Main-Tauber district and, for example, study in Wrzburg, the message continues. They are reimbursed 50 percent of the cost of the Rhein-Neckar ticket. The aim of the commuter ticket is to keep young people for a long-term career in the Main-Tauber district, says District Administrator Reinhard Frank.

Evening bus offer

A temporary offer is also the evening bus along the Tauberbahn from Wertheim via Tauberbischofsheim, Lauda, Bad Mergentheim and Weikersheim to Schrozberg. This evening bus is part of the Baden-Wrttemberg mobility offensive. It should be possible to use buses and trains in rural areas until midnight. An operating period of five years has initially been agreed with the state, reports District Administrator Frank. The country reserves the right to take stock. The previously agreed operating time for the evening bus service will run until December 2024. Only if the temporary PNV services are sufficiently frequented can they be offered in the long term, explains District Administrator Frank.
