The north of the Netherlands is in a much better position than the other regions in the corona crisis. Fewer infections, fewer ICU patients, fewer deaths. The originally German physician-microbiologist, Professor Dr. Alex Friedrich, plays a central role in the successful approach, which deviated crucially from the line of the cabinet and RIVM. Friedrich insists: testing, detection, isolation. “At some point I had to deviate from the national test policy in order not to endanger employees and patients in the UMCG.”
