Fewer breaks, more time pressure: Study: Acceleration in working life burdens working people – economy | Themed world guide

More stress, increased demands, longer working hours: this is how you could describe the developments in the world of work in recent years. Above all, this has a negative impact on employee satisfaction.

The world of work has changed – employees have to do more and more tasks in less time. This reduces commitment and satisfaction. These are the results of a research project by occupational psychologists from the University of Vienna.

Older people in particular complain about the higher time pressure and the greater concentration of work. On the one hand, those affected try to actively cope with the increased demands by reducing breaks and working faster and longer. On the other hand, some quality cuts and even pretend success.

To relieve employees, companies should create more structure and security, the scientists advise. This has a significantly more relieving effect than strengthening the individual skills of employees, for example in time or self-management. With the support of the Science Fund FWF, the scientists interviewed more than 2,000 employees in the service sector on multiple occasions.
