Fewer and fewer corona patients in hospitals, but infections are increasing Inland

In intensive care units, the number of corona patients fell again to below 600 on Saturday, after being above it for two days. At the moment, employees of the ICs care for 597 people with Covid-19, the disease caused by the corona virus. That is six patients less than Friday. 29 new patients were admitted to the ICUs. It is the first time in almost three weeks that there were fewer than 30 new admissions of Covid patients on the ICUs in one day.

‘Very painful’

There are currently 435 people on the ICs for a reason other than Covid-19. These are, for example, people who need to be monitored for a while after an operation. In addition, the ICs must always keep enough beds empty for emergencies. Currently, the total IC capacity is approximately 1150 beds. Due to the large influx of corona patients, the capacity will be expanded to 1,250 beds from Monday, the LCPS announced on Friday. To achieve this, even more other care needs to be canceled or postponed. A spokeswoman on Friday called that “very painful.”

The nursing departments are currently treating 2073 corona patients, a decrease of 52 people compared to 24 hours ago. A day earlier, the number of people with Covid-19 in the clinics already decreased by 83 patients. From Friday to Saturday, 281 new corona patients were admitted to the nursing wards, but because more people left the clinics, for example because they were transferred to another department or died, the total number of Covid patients admitted fell.

To spread the pressure on hospital care as much as possible, patients can be moved between regions. On Friday, 19 patients were transferred to another region. Of these, two patients were moved to Germany.

RIVM reports 22,723 positive corona tests, above the weekly average

The RIVM has identified 22,723 new corona infections between Friday morning and Saturday morning, which means that the latest daily figures are above the weekly average. On average, 21,666 infections were detected per day in the last seven days.

It is the 18th time in 19 days that there are more than 20,000 confirmed infections. The only day that the number remained below that limit was due to a malfunction. On Friday, (adjusted) 21,581 positive tests were registered.

On Saturday, 56 deaths were recorded from the effects of the virus. The fact that the deaths of these people have now been reported does not mean that they died within the past day. Sometimes it can take some time. In the past week, the institute registered 371 deaths, an average of about 53 per day.

In the past 24 hours, the most infections were detected with 814 positive tests in Amsterdam. Rotterdam follows with 696 positive test results, followed by The Hague (633), Utrecht (547) and Tilburg (393).
