Dr Stewart Adams’ pharmacy career began at a Boots store in March, Cambridgeshire when he was just 16 years old. He later moved to Boots’ Nottingham headquarters where he was given a scholarship to Nottingham University. Dr Adams and his team filed a patent for the compound 2-(4-isobutylphenyl) propionic acid in 1961, which was later named ibuprofen. It was approved for use in 1969 and became available over the counter in 1983. March and District Museum recently discovered Dr Adams’ connection to the town and created a display to celebrate his life, which runs until 16 April 2023, the centenary of his birth.
