Felipe VI pays tribute to the victims of covid-19: “The imprint of those who are no longer with us will never be erased”

This Friday, together with the head of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the king and queen presided over the third state tribute to the victims of covid-19 and health personnelwhich has once again had the Royal Palace of Madrid as its setting.

The act of homage was also attended by all the ministers, the powers of the State, regional presidents, the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and parliamentary representatives.

The motto of this tribute is “An applause for the memory”. A wide representation of the families of the victims from the health and scientific sectors and civil society have also participated.

After the floral offering before the cauldron installed in the center of the Courtyard of the Palace Armory, the king took the floor and paid tribute to the victims and said that they are a “legacy” of difficult times for the country.

“Spain is a fair and supportive country, it has always shown it, with hope in the future. The imprint of all those who are no longer with us will never be erased. They have our recognition and our memory, which will remain intact forever”, has guaranteed.

Felipe VI asks not to forget the lessons learned

In his speech, the King asked to honor the “generosity” and “courage” of those who risked their lives “to save those of others”, as he stressed. Felipe VI has also called not to forget the lessons learned and to incorporate them as a “guide for the future”.

Thus, he has stressed that at this time everything that the pandemic revealed as “relevant and urgent” must be strengthened and has called for greater investment in science, to strengthen health systems, care for the elderly and international cooperation. .

The head of Biotechnology and Products of the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (Aemps), Agustín Portela, and the Director General of Health of the European Commission, Sandra Gallina, also took the floor at the tribute.

After the minute of silence and the intervention of Felipe VI, the Madrid singer Alice Wonder has interpreted the song ‘Lucha de gigante’, by Antonio Vega, and a video will be projected with the motto of the solemn act.
