Fedora Workstation comes on Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks

A few notebook models are available ex works with a Linux operating system. However, the range in this segment is not particularly wide. At least it is now being expanded a bit, because the Fedora project is working with Lenovo to launch some models as a Fedora Edition as part of the Lenovo Linux Community Series.

These are the ThinkPad P1 Gen2, ThinkPad P53 and ThinkPad X1 Gen8, which are to be delivered with a pre-installed Fedora 32 workstation. Fedora is the direct successor to Red Hat Linux. According to Fedora, adjustments to the software or drivers do not have to be made. The notebooks and the hardware obtain the software exclusively from the Fedora Repos.

Of course, a Linux can also be installed on other notebooks and used as the primary operating system. Fedora points out, however, that it is not always easy, especially with regard to driver support, to set everything up and make it work. In return, Lenovo undertakes to offer support and also to correct errors.

Mark Pearson, Sr. Linux Developer at Lenovo: “Lenovo is excited to become a part of the Fedora community. We want to ensure an optimal Linux experience on our products. We are committed to working with and learning from the open source community.”

However, further details are still pending. So there is no information about the hardware configurations used. There will be a Fedora Council meeting in May, which will also feature the Lenovo Linux Community Series.
