Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) wants to be common on a two-day trip to Washington

The Federal Ministry of Economics announced on Monday that it was planned to meet various representatives of the US government. Accordingly, talks with German company representatives are initially planned for Monday.

Habeck and Le Maire will meet US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo on Tuesday. The most important topic will be the “Inflation Reduction Act” (IRA) and its importance for future trade relations between the EU and the USA. “We can build a green bridge across the Atlantic and build common green lead markets,” said Habeck, looking at the trip. “More renewable energies, more energy efficiency, a climate-friendly industry – that’s what we’re working towards in Europe.” The USA had also taken this course with the “Inflation Reduction Act”. “The USA is now gearing its economy towards green markets and is driving forward cost reductions in the development of climate-friendly technologies,” said Habeck. That is good, but it is also important that this happens in “friendly, fair competition” and thus leads to progress in climate-neutral technologies. “In view of the geopolitical challenges, it is also crucial to strengthen resilience and overcome one-sided dependencies,” added the Green politician. Here, too, cooperation with the USA is of great importance.
