Important and comforting news arrives regarding the health of Nathan Van Hooydonckhit yesterday by an illness while driving his car together with his pregnant wife. Reassuring news had already arrived on Tuesday evening, according to which she was conscious and had not suffered brain damage, confirmed by today’s bulletin from her team, the Jumbo Visma. “He is communicating and doing well, given the circumstances – we read in the press release – Nathan was very happy to learn that Jonas (Vingegaard, ed.) had won Tuesday’s stage at the Vuelta, and was very touched by the fact that this victory was dedicated to him.”
According to the reconstruction of the dynamics of the accident, at the red light at an intersection in Kalmthout, Belgium, Van Hooydonck lost control of his car, drove off by stepping on the accelerator and hit five other vehicles. A woman and a child in a Range Rover were also injured. With him in the car there was also his wife Alicia, eight months pregnant but totally unharmed as emerged after checks in hospital.
It is still too early to know whether the 27-year-old Belgian will be able to continue his professional career, but at this point the most important thing is that he recovers quickly, also in view of the imminent birth of his son.
