FC Utrecht convincingly won a practice match against sc Heerenveen on Thursday evening. The Domstedelingen were too strong for the Frisians in Stadium Galgenwaard with 4-1.
Ten minutes before half time FC Utrecht already led 3-0. Django Warmerdam opened the score with a slider in the seventh minute. Fifteen minutes later, Simon Gustafson doubled the margin, after he came face to face with Heerenveen goalkeeper Erwin Mulder.
Adrián Dalmau made the third goal for the home team by working from close by a cross from Warmerdam. On the stroke of half time Heerenveen did something back via Rami Hajal, who just came in, who headed from a corner. In the final phase, Gyrano Kerk determined the final score with a hard shot, while a heavy downpour fell.
FC Utrecht, which played against Heerenveen without acquisitions Eljero Elia and Mimoun Mahi, recovered from last week’s big defeat (5-1) when visiting Ajax. Earlier in the preparation, the team of coach John van den Brom did beat AZ (1-0).
For Heerenveen it meant the fourth defeat in as many practice matches. Last Saturday, the Frisians suffered a painful defeat at De Graafschap (5-1) and previously lost to Vitesse (1-2) and NAC Breda (1-0).
Earlier in the day, the practice match between AZ and Fortuna Sittard was canceled at the last minute because a player from the Limburgers had tested positive for the corona virus. Instead, the Alkmaarders play at home against Telstar on Friday.
