FC Schalke 04’s Test in Ulm: Fans Criticize High Ticket Prices

FC Schalke 04’s test in Ulm during the upcoming international break is a topic for discussion among S04 fans. The reason is the ticket price.

On September 8th, FC Schalke 04 will play a friendly at SSV Ulm 1846 during the international break. Kick-off in the Donaustadion is at 6.30 p.m. The duel with last year’s champions of the Regionalliga Südwest is a repeat of the second round game in the DFB Cup from the 2020/2021 season.

As is usual in this competition, the lower-league club usually enjoys home rights. Due to the corona pandemic and the associated conditions, the game was played in Gelsenkirchen shortly before Christmas, and Schalke won 3-1 at the time.

At the time, both clubs had agreed that S04 would, in return, play a friendly in Ulm in the future. This plan is now being put into action. So far, so normal. But shortly after the announcement, the first criticism was voiced. The ticket prices are the reason.

The pre-sale prices for a seat are 22 euros (on the other side) or 33 euros (main grandstand), for standing room 16.50 euros are due. In addition, there are five euros shipping costs for the paper maps if they cannot be picked up free of charge from the ServiceCenter by September 6th. S04 fans can request tickets until 12.04 p.m. on August 25 at tickets.schalke04.de. A surcharge of two euros per ticket is charged at the box office.

“Cheeky for a test match,” said the first fans after our Schalke reporter Andreas Ernst had been surprised at the high prices on his Twitter channel. “They just want to make a profit with us,” said others.

However, the discussion was quite a mixed one: it was also emphasized that the prices in Ulm are not that unusual these days. “Rapid Vienna was also 19.04 euros,” recalled one fan. “The test match against Paderborn was also that high and in Ahlen in the second game too,” wrote another.
