If they had completely missed the 2019-2020 edition after a heartbreaking elimination in the 32nd finals on the lawn of Rouen amateurs (3-0), the Garnets had managed to climb until the round of 16 in the two previous seasons.

Then the following season, still at home, by Orléans. A confrontation between Ligue 2 training which had logically turned in favor of Orléanais (0-1) against Lorraine absent in the physical impact and lack of ideas. An elimination all the more annoying as the teammates of Gautier Hein had offered the scalp of Monaco (1-3) to Louis-II in the previous round … What, perhaps, give ideas to the Lorraine.
Double confrontation in the Principality
Indeed, for the men of Frédéric Antonetti – who eliminated the two Ligue 2 teams: Amiens (1-2) then Valenciennes (0-4) – the challenge will be to win on the lawn of Monaco (winner of Nice this Monday) and thus obliterate a ticket for the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France. A level that FC Metz, winner of the 1984 and 1988 editions (finalist in 1938), has not reached since April 2008 and a defeat on the side of Lyon (1-0). A hell of a challenge for Garnets!
The meeting will take place on Tuesday 6 or Wednesday 7 April, just a few days after a first meeting in the Principality since Monegasques and Messins already have an appointment in the league on the weekend of April 4!
