FC Bayern: Uli Hoeneß on time after Corona crisis: “new football world”

The long-time president of FC Bayern talks about the effects of the corona crisis – and also comments on the possible start of the Bundesliga.

According to Uli Hoeneß, the world of football will be completely different after the uncertain end of the global coronavirus pandemic. “You cannot prescribe it, but I cannot imagine 100 million euro transfers in the near future. The transfer sums will fall, the amounts will not be able to move at the previous level in the next two or three years” said the long-time president of FC Bayern Munich in an interview with the “kicker” (Thursday). “Because all countries are affected,” said the 68-year-old. “There will very likely be a new soccer world.”

In the current situation, Hoeneß sees not only a danger, but also the chance “that the coordinates can be changed”. Politics in Germany are doing “a sensational job,” said the honorary president of the German record-breaking champion, demanding: “Solidarity must now be lived, not just told.” And: “It’s about human lives” – that’s why everyone should absolutely adhere to the adopted regulations.

Hoeneß: “The existence of the entire league is threatened”

The future development in the Bundesliga schedule is currently uncertain. Hoeneß said: “Even games without a viewer guarantee the distribution of TV money, and if it works, there will be no existential problem for 2019/20.” However, if there were no games by Christmas, Hoeneß emphasized, “the livelihood of the entire league would be threatened”. All who make predictions about a possible restart of the games are “charlatans”.
