“The number of domestic terrorism cases has exploded,” FBI Director Chris Wray said during testimony before the Senate House Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs.
The FBI is now investigating 2,700 investigations. According to Wray, there were 1,000 investigations ongoing last year. The number of staff involved in it has grown by 260 percent in the past year, according to Wray.
Domestic terrorism rose especially sharply after the attack on the Capitol on January 6 this year by supporters of then-President Donald Trump. They then tried to undo President Joe Biden’s election victory.
