SINGAPORE, KOMPAS.com – A father in Malaysia named Cheong Kah Pin (67) for the past ten years always rides a motorbike to Singapore at 2 am to visit his son in prison.
Cheong travels twice a month from Johor, Malaysia. After arriving in Singapore, he waited in front of the prison for several hours before visiting hours opened.
His visits were so regular that he had memorized all the changes in the area over the past ten years.
In the video uploaded by 8world News on Saturday (22/4/2023), Cheong revealed that he chose to leave alone at 2 am so he could drive slowly because it was safer.
Due to his old age, Cheong was afraid that he would bump into other people or be run over.
He also pointed out the place in front of the prison which was always occupied while waiting until 8 am to be able to visit his eldest son, Cheong Chun Yin.
“I miss him (my son) and seeing him live is what I want. I don’t care how long to wait. I’m happy as long as I can see it…”
Cheong Chun Yin is currently serving a life sentence in Singapore since 2008 for possession of heroin.
Chun Yin was 24 years old when he was arrested. He admitted that he was ordered to bring gold bars for his boss, which turned out to contain drugs in the package.
Chun Yin denied knowing he was carrying drugs and has maintained his alibi until now.

He was later found guilty and sentenced to death, but in 2015 this was reduced to life imprisonment and 15 lashes.
Cheong was devastated when he learned about his son’s predicament. He went so far as to sell three of his houses to earn enough money to hire lawyers and save Chun Yin.
“Whatever he (my son) does, business or other things, he trusts others without a doubt… He trusts others and doesn’t check… Now he is bearing it.”
There is a glimmer of hope for the father and son to reunite. In 2028 Chun Yin will have the opportunity to obtain remission from Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs, as he has already served 20 years in prison by then and will have his sentence reviewed.
