The tests for genetic material (RNA; direct virus detection using the PCR method) of the Covid-19 pathogens run on the company’s large laboratory machines (Cobas 6800 and Cobas 8800), as installed in large clinics and laboratories. According to the company, this is the first commercially available test of this kind from swab material for SARS-CoV-2. He identifies both positive samples on Covid 19 pathogens themselves and on pan sarbecoviruses as a group.
Roche wants to use it in the United States and Europe Make millions of tests available in the very near future. The managing director of the Roche group, Severin swansaid in an interview with the Swiss SFR: “The crucial thing about the new test is that it runs on highly automated platforms on which many tests can be carried out in a very short time. On our system with the highest throughput, we can carry out more than 4,000 tests within 24 hours.”
With Cobas 6800 machines, 1,440 examinations can be carried out per day. Cobas 8800 systems complete 4,128 tests within 24 hours. This is largely automatic. The two types of system can work for four or eight hours without any human intervention. 695 Cobas 6800 and 132 Cobas 8800 systems are installed worldwide.
