French automaker Renault wants to reduce the industrial costs of making an electric car by 50 percent by 2027.
The company wants to reduce the costs of making a car with a combustion engine by 30 percent. The development cycle for vehicles should also be increased from three to two years.
The cost reduction is part of the Re-Industry transformation plan that Renault is working on. This should allow the company, for example, to produce the future Renault 5 in nine hours. The automaker therefore wants to focus even more on digitalization and developing innovative processes.
Reduce production costs
European automakers are busy offering cheaper electric cars, now that more and more Chinese manufacturers are crossing over to Europe. Reducing production costs by half is already a big step forward for the French manufacturer.
CEO Luca de Meo recently announced the arrival of an electric Renault for less than 20,000 euros.
