Fantic Motor buys the historic Bottecchia bike brand and focuses on e-bike- Corriere.it

In addition to motorcycles and e-bikes, Fantic Motor SpA aims to broaden its horizons towards new market areas: in fact, the acquisition of the historic Bottecchia Cicli brand is official, whose business in the production of bicycles began almost a century ago (precisely in 1926) in Vittorio Veneto, a municipality in the province of Treviso, in Veneto. The complete line of this Italian excellence starts with racing bikes, but it also includes gravel bikes (for cycling on gravel) and dedicated mountain bikes to professionalism, electric ones, up to city bikes and muscle trekking.


The history of Bottecchia

Bottecchia has distinguished itself over time for continuity, solidity, absolute quality – explains Mariano Roman, CEO of Fantic Motor -. The acquisition by Fantic took place with a view to completing the product range, thanks to their experience in the production of bicycles with a range of products of absolute quality. The almost centennial history of the Venetian brand begins right on board a bicycle: in July 1924 the young athlete Ottavio Bottecchia, who was a bricklayer by profession, became the first Italian to win the Tour de France and the first rider to wear the famous yellow jersey from the first to the last stage. A historic enterprise that two years later led to the birth of the economic one, selling the first racing bikes. Over the years the business expanded, up to the production of the legendary Graziella model, still known today (especially for the famous faces who were testimonials, such as the French actress Brigitte Bardot), and bringing great champions to success in the most prestigious competitions: both Gianni Motta in 1964 at the 49th edition of the Giro d’Italia and Giuseppe Saronni in 1974 at the 62nd they won riding a Bottecchia bike. And again Rudi Altid won the World Championship in 1966 on the roads of the Nurburgring and the legendary Greg LeMond in 1989 was the first to reach the finish line in the Tour de France.


Fantic Motor’s strategy

The extension strategy of Fantic Motor, therefore, becomes more and more concrete. It began in 2019 with industrial collaboration with Yamaha Motor Europe, continued with the acquisition of Motori Minarelli at the end of 2020. passed by the increasingly significant commitment in the new “green” era, in which the company has launched n innovative and cutting-edge solutions in terms of urban mobility (such as the TX2 electric scooter). In March 2022 he presented the F. Moser brand, created together with the champion Francesco Moser. With Bottecchia, Fantic adds another piece. Bottecchia also boasts a highly structured sales network with over 400 dealers all over the world – adds Roman -. Given the estimate towards the current owner, the great professionalism and seriousness always demonstrated, the entire management was confirmed as well as all current employees in the company. An integral part of the transaction was the Deutsche Bank banking group, which supported the company in managing the financial part of the acquisition.
