The building was expected to be constructed in late 2020.
25 Plovdiv families say they were scammed by a building contractor. According to them, they have been waiting since the second year to be accommodated in apartments for which they have paid thousands of euros. The construction of the cooperative was expected to be completed at the end of 2020, but to date the building has not yet been completed. Half of the victims said they paid the full amount for the accommodation, while others gave 90% of the price.
“One year nobody works. The construction company has no explanation. They say they will finish the building,” says one of the victims.
“I paid 90%. I have 2 children, we live in an apartment,” says Tihomir Ochkov, another victim.
“Because the building has Act 14, we also pay taxes on the apartment we didn’t actually have,” said another man who was left without an apartment even though he paid for it.
Our team was able to contact construction contractor Iliya Matakov. On the phone, he explained that there was no fraud, but there had been a 10-month delay in construction. When his people transfer the rest of the money, the building will be completed. It should be ready by the end of March 2023.
