The scarves hang to the left and right of the canvas. This is easy to see, even if the white color is no longer so bright. The parquet crunches under your shoes, there are still a few typical benches on the edge. And the passages from the projection room can still be clearly seen. Anyone entering the hall of Markt 11 in Droyzut will immediately recognize that there used to be a cinema here.
Annoyance with owners: neglected buildings could be a danger?
“It must have existed before World War II. Because my father was born in the 1930s and still remembers it. But the cinema has not existed since the 1970s, ”explains Ralf Kuhnert. He is the manager, also of the neighboring house at Markt 9. The owner lives in the old federal states and obviously has little to do with Droyssig.
This is annoying, because the houses have been modern for decades and could slowly pose a threat to the general public. A half-timbered wall from number 11 is already dangerously pressed inwards, the old roof no longer looks safe either. Years ago, Kuhnert had to use wooden planks to ensure that shingles did not fall on the street. In the upper area there are already corresponding holes in the roof.

The owner rejects potential buyers and has his own plans for the building
“That is certainly not the most beautiful sight for our town center, especially in the middle of the redevelopment area,” says Uwe Luksch. He was mayor of Droyzut until 2016 and during this time he tried in vain to refer prospective buyers to the owner. “He’s interested in selling, but then only the entire area,” explains Kuhnert. The total of two thousand square meters of land includes the two buildings as well as a large barn. Luksch estimates the square meter price alone at at least twenty euros.
The owner should also have plans of what to do with the ensemble. But, according to Kuhnert, he doesn’t want to reveal them. The house at Markt 11 with its two floors offers a lot of possibilities. “I could imagine age-appropriate living. Whether in the renovated house or through a new building would then have to be determined by the monument protection, ”says Uwe Luksch.

Buildings steeped in history: restaurant, event room, flower shop and cinema
The latter is sure to keep a close eye on it. Because the core house is apparently from 1763, as a corresponding inscription on a side wall shows. “There used to be horse stables below the hall. The house itself was probably a restaurant until the 20th century, ”suspects Ralf Kuhnert. During the GDR era, there were numerous apartments here, then the cinema and later the hall was used as an event room, including for poultry exhibitions. Until 2012 the flower shop, which is now a little further in the village, had its domicile here.
The last tenant moved out in 2014. “After that there was a lot of rioting here. Copper, heating and electrical systems were stolen and many things were simply broken, ”says Kuhnert. Broken doors testify to the vandalism. He also wishes that fate would mean it better for the house and its neighbor quickly. A revival as a cinema can certainly be ruled out. It’s over for good. (mz)
