Speaking at the awards ceremony, Mehmet Büyükekşi began his speech by expressing his condolences to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack on Beyoğlu Istiklal Street yesterday and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
Stressing the importance of fair play in football, Büyükekşi said, “The duty of the amateur to the professional, the presidents of all football clubs, coaches, coaches, footballers and even fans is to follow the rules of the game within the framework of fair play, which is the universal concept that beautifies the sport for one’s own teams, as in all areas of life, and act towards the opposing team.

In football, which has become one of the biggest industries in the world, managers, coaches and players must not forget that they are role models for millions of people, especially children and young people. Above all our children need to have strong values that they will grow up with. Football, as a team sport, allows them to understand how necessary discipline, respect, team spirit and fair play are in the game and in life. In this regard, it is very important that all football stakeholders display behaviors and speeches that will set an example for our children and young people both on and off the pitch.

“To create a contemporary football culture, we must accept tolerance, peace and brotherhood as the most important values in football.” Mehmet Büyükekşi, who used his own words, said, “As a federation that thinks fair-play has a very important place in both developing and beautifying our football and increasing the brand value of our football, we have aimed to reward the names in our league who act in accordance with these principles and to present them as role models for football fans. As a federation, we want to set the right role models for the public, the football family, especially our children and youth, setting an example and praising the good.” he said.

Stating that the Fair Play and Social Responsibility Board has started to determine the names worthy of the Spor Toto Super League Fair Play/Fair Game award in 5 categories according to important criteria at regular intervals, Büyükekşi said, “Following the evaluation of the first 8 weeks of our championship, the first Fair Play/Fair Game of the season. As a federation, we want to encourage football players, coaches, clubs, club presidents and fans of the football family to play fair by rewarding the prize winners both morally that financially.

I hope the quality and brand value of our football will increase by developing the fair play spirit of competition on the pitch. In the coming weeks of the season, it is my great wish that the number of names exhibiting the behaviors that will be nominated for the Fair Play/Fair Game award will increase and that our Fair Play and Social Responsibility Committee will have difficulty choosing which name to assign due of the large number of candidates.”
The TFF president added that from now on the referees will shake hands with both coaches and wish success before matches.
