– Through a good dialogue with the shipping company and crew, the Norwegian Maritime Directorate’s inspectors now have a clear picture of what happened when MS King Harald had an engine stop yesterday, and what caused this, the directorate states in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.

It was just before 9 pm on Tuesday night that the ship sent out an emergency message. One engine had stopped, and the ship had lost all propulsion and drifted ashore. A major rescue operation was launched, but eventually the ship started one of the engines, and the ship set course for Molde.

On Wednesday, there were several inspectors on board the ship to conduct investigations. Investigations showed that one of the main engines was temporarily taken out of service in connection with repairs when the fault occurred.

The worn part of the engine that led to the shutdown was replaced on Wednesday. Both engines have been tested and work as usual, the directorate states.
