Facing the Third Wave of Covid, Hospitals in Belgium Are Full – Kabarin.co.id

Jakarta, kabarin.co.id – The decline in Covid-19 cases, which did not go down in line with the government’s expectations, boosted the full capacity of hospitals in Belgium. Even though the government has planned to relax the lockdown in the near future.

Health agency spokesman Yves Van Laethem said that until now there had not been a decrease in cases as expected by the government.

“We’re not at all experiencing the decline we expected in terms of infections,” he said, quoted by Reuters, Saturday (17/4/2021).

Currently there are more than three thousand Covid-19 patients in hospitals and 930 patients in intensive care units (ICU). Of the two thousand ICUs available, one thousand have been prepared for cases other than Covid.

Meanwhile, the increase in average daily cases in the last week reached 3,884, has decreased slightly since the lockdown at the end of March. However, the percentage of positive test results is increasing.

To date, more than 23,000 people have died from Covid-19 in Belgium. This is one of the highest per capita death rates in the world.

Chief nurse Pol Grosjean of the Montlegia CHC clinic in Liege said the pressure was severe, with about 50% of the ICU occupied by Covid-19 patients.

He prefers but is very careful when it comes to restricting movement and social interactions.

“I’m sick of it too, not being able to have five or 10 people around the house and so on. But I think we have to be careful and there are a lot of people who don’t know what we are going through in the hospital, “he said.
