A meeting is supposed to take place on Thursday July 23 and is supposed to establish the measures to possibly enter phase 5 of the deconfinement. But with a 32% increase in new infections this Friday, the situation seems uncertain.

The increase in the number of new infections is a major concern for Jan Jambon. “Treat this issue with wisdom and determination, but don’t panic”, did he declare. “We have learned from the past few months. We are convinced that today we are better equipped to manage this pandemic.”

Call to respect the measures

Ham again urges people to adapt to the “gravity of the situation” and strictly adhere to the guidelines. Even if according to him, many Flemings adhere well to the rules. But at the same time, there are also people who “think the worst is over”.

“And especially now that it’s summer, we all seem to behaving a little more relaxed”, declares the Minister-President. Jan Jambon also explains that his government wants to do everything in its power to contain the increase in the number of people infected in Belgium.

“We are watching this from minute to minute. The Flemish government services will continue to work hard”, he adds. At the same time, the Flemish Prime Minister therefore requests the Federal Prime Minister, Sophie Wilmès, to convene the National Security Council (NVR) in advance to respond to the situation.

A concertation committee to take stock this Sunday

In the wake of this request from the Minister-President of the Flemish government, the RTBF learned that a Comit of consultation will be convened Sunday morning in the presence of experts, especially regional, in order to apprehend together the causes of the evolution of the health situation in each part of the country. The CNS should then be advanced, or not, depending on the conclusions of this meeting.
