Facebook admits production errors in the Elite Strap that should now be eliminated. Sales are starting again with a longer guarantee.
Oculus Quest 2 (test) is supplied with a simple fabric holder as standard, which, depending on the shape of the head, is more or less comfortable. The “Elite Strap” head strap, on the other hand, is supposed to make Oculus Quest 2 more comfortable for every bulb and optionally comes with an integrated battery on the back of the head for longer VR runtimes.
While the Elite Strap does its primary job well, there were some shortcomings in build quality when it launched. On Reddit, a number of users reported cracks and breaks in the material. In early November, Facebook stopped delivering the accessories to “look into the matter”.
Oculus Quest 2 Elite Strap: Sales restart
Now Facebook announces that sales of the Elite Straps will start again. We are talking about “a small number of complaints” that resulted in “inconsistent processing of some of the first few units”.
Although the problem affects very few users according to Facebook, the company is now offering a two year warranty on all Elite Straps from the date of purchase in the store or from the date of delivery for online purchases. Should problems arise during these two years, Facebook will send out a free replacement.
Oculus in Germany: It’s complicated
In Germany, the Elite Strap and Oculus Quest 2 are of course not sold, and this will remain so until at least April 2021, especially since the Federal Cartel Office is now investigating Oculus data against Facebook in addition to the already ongoing legal dispute on data usage.
Like the VR glasses, however, you can purchase the accessories from online shops in other EU countries like Amazon France. The Elite Strap is currently not available again there, that should change in the coming days.
