Facebook is preparing a connected watch with two cameras

Facebook has confirmed that it is working on a smartwatch that may one day be hooked up to augmented reality glasses. These are also being designed by the social network. The information was confirmed by Andrew Bosworth, head of Facebook Reality Labs, on Twitter.

“We said we wanted augmented reality glasses that were really useful,” wrote Andrew Bosworth. “We are investing in technologies that will make this interaction more natural and intuitive. […] We will say more when we are ready. “And just like with our eyewear work, we’ll be consulting with third-party experts to help us get it right,” he added.

According to the tech media, the watch will be equipped with two cameras and will integrate with Facebook applications such as Instagram, its image-centric social network. A mechanism would allow in particular to detach the strap from the watch in order to take photos and videos at any time and in high quality with, as if it were a small smartphone, they could, thus, be shared on Facebook, but also Instagram, and it is expected for the summer of 2022.

The Facebook Watch would be equipped with fitness sensors and a heart monitor. However, the management of health data is a sensitive and recurring subject, and Facebook is not known to protect the privacy of its users.

For the firm of Mark Zuckerberg, the goal of this connected watch is to take photos more easily and quickly, where it is still too long to take out your smartphone to capture a precise moment. The goal is that this detachable camera can be used on a variety of media, much like a GoPro.

Like Snap, a social media pioneer now present in the IoT, Facebook seems to link the future of its applications to specific hardware. See you in 2022.
