Facebook, Instagram and Twitter remove more than 100,000 hoaxes about covid and vaccination in a month

Digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter withdrew more than 100,000 messages in June alone for promoting misinformation about the coronavirus pandemic or hoaxes against vaccination. As reported by the European Commission in its June monitoring report on the Code of Good Practices, the work of large platforms to combat false information about the pandemic and promote vaccination was confirmed.

Specifically, Facebook reported the removal of more than 76,000 pieces of digital content that violated the policy on the pandemic and vaccination, an increase of more than 14,000 publications compared to May data. For its part, Twitter identified and removed 43,010 messages worldwide for violating the coronavirus information policy.

The Vice President of Values ​​and Transparency of the European Commission, Vera Jourova, highlighted that the programs to monitor disinformation related to the pandemic are allowing the launching of concrete actions by digital platforms.
