The president of the United States took it as censorship and decided to put an end to social media activities. To this end, he signed an implementing regulationunder which social media will be treated as publishers if they moderate user posts. This was to open the way for easier lawsuits against Twitter and Facebook.
And while many commentators, both left and right, have doubts about the legality of Trump’s actions, doubts about the actions of social media are perfectly justified.
