Isn’t Facebook going too far with this new directive? Pieter Bauwens, editor-in-chief of the Flemish opinion site Doorbraak.be, thinks so. “We risk ending up in a society where we practice self-censorship,” says Bauwens. “I have never experienced the old Zwarte Piet as racist, for me it can just continue to exist. Besides, making things that bothers you disappear cannot be healthy for a democracy.”
