Eye contact takes over video calls as Nvidia upgrades Broadcast

With the advent of the pandemic, video calls became the new normal for meetings, something that still lingers in many places. The services for online meetings have been gradually upgraded with filters for better sound and image, but the problem of eye contact between the digital meeting participants remains. Now Nvidia is upgrading the Broadcast program with a solution for everyone with a Geforce RTX graphics card in the computer.

Broadcast already includes functions such as noise-reduced sound, background blur and a function to center the user in the camera. During CES, Nvidia showed the new eye contact feature, which as of the fresh version 1.4.0 is available in beta stage. Just like the other Broadcast features suggest, it’s an AI-powered filter, which in this case shifts the focus of your eyes from the screen to the webcam.

When SweClockers takes a quick look at the filter, it is clear that the function can mean a real boost for those who spend a lot of time in meetings. The function is not quite perfect and the eyes can sometimes move unnaturally fast. Completely in line with what Nvidia promised, however, the direction of the eyes looks away from the content on the screen and towards the camera, but without turning the Broadcast user into someone who stares at the meeting participants. The AI-modified raven windows, for example, follow blinks and if the user clearly looks away from the screen.

Updated Nvidia Broadcast available for download through the company’s website and can be used by whoever has Geforce RTX 2060 or a more powerful graphics card model with Tensor cores under the shell.
