Bird flu has been diagnosed at a turkey fattening farm in Dornum, in the Landkreis Aurich. The approximately 10,000 turkeys have been culled.

It is the infectious H5N8 variant. The virus is contagious and deadly to birds, but it can also infect people, for whom it is not very dangerous for the time being. The symptoms of the H5N8 variant of avian flu in humans resemble a mild form of flu.
The most common symptoms are fever, headache, chills and cough.
The turkey fattening owner discovered bird flu during checks. Laves officials were then called in to actually diagnose the virus.
Controls were also carried out on two other farms in the area, but the virus has not been detected there. Strict precautions have been taken within a radius of ten kilometers around the farm.
