extension until September 16, 2020

Berne, 01.07.2020 – The right to the Corona-loss of earnings allowance for the self-employed directly or indirectly affected by the measures to combat the coronavirus has been extended until September 16, 2020. Employees of their own active business in the field of events and who are in a situation of rigor may also touch the Corona-loss of earnings allowance. This is what the Federal Council decided at its meeting on July 1, 2020. It thus takes into account the fact that many companies cannot yet resume their activity or can only do so partially, even if the measures of the coronavirus pandemic have been completely or partially lifted.

The latest business closures were lifted on June 6, and the ban on demonstrations was gradually eased. Currently, only demonstrations of more than 1000 people remain prohibited throughout Switzerland. The self-employed affected by this last ban are still entitled to the Corona loss of earnings allowance. For all others, this right expired on May 16 or early June. Although the restrictions have been relaxed, many companies are losing revenue. The Federal Council therefore considers that it is justified to continue supporting them. The persons concerned will not have to take any particular steps, the AVS compensation funds will resume payment of their allowance.

The Federal Council also decided to widen the circle of beneficiaries of this allowance. The owners of SA or Sàrl who are employed in their own company and who work in events will also touch it. Since June 1, they are no longer entitled to compensation in the event of a reduction in the unemployment insurance work schedule, although the area of events remains strongly affected by the COVID-19 crisis. . These people will now be treated in the same way as the self-employed indirectly affected. The implementation of this new allowance will take a few weeks and it is recommended that those affected wait until mid-July to claim their benefits from the AVS compensation funds.

The additional costs linked to this extension of the circle of beneficiaries and the extension of the right to the Corona allowance – loss of earnings are estimated at nearly one billion francs and do not make it necessary to grant additional credit.
