For ten days this month, exports surged by nearly 70% from a year ago. Major exports such as automobiles, cell phones, and semiconductors showed a marked increase. It is interpreted that the demand that was suppressed by the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in the United States and Europe is reviving.

According to the Korea Customs Service on the 15th, exports on the 1st to 10th of this month were $1,753 billion, up 69.1% from the same period last year. The number of working days during this period was 8.5 days, 1.5 days more than last year, but the average daily export value, reflecting the number of working days, also increased 39.3%.

Exports of passenger cars (102.4%), wireless communication devices (88.0%), and semiconductors (57.9%) showed a sharp increase. An official from the Korea Customs Service explained, “With export recovery continuing from the second half of last year (July-December), the growth trend of major domestic exports is clearly showing. By export partner country, exports to the European Union (EU) and the US increased 126.1% and 91.4% compared to the same period last year, respectively.
