A Russian military ammunition depot caught fire and exploded in Russia-occupied Crimea. A Kremlin spokesman said that President Vladimir Putin had been informed of the incident and ordered more than 2,000 nearby residents to evacuate immediately.

Six hours after the fire broke out in the ammunition depot, the explosions continued, and officials speculated that it may take two days to completely extinguish the fire.

When Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov asked reporters whether the president was aware of the ammunition depot fire, he said, “Putin knew about it immediately and instructed that the safety of nearby residents should be given priority.”

Peskov also said that Sergei Aksyonov, the Russian-appointed regional governor of Crimea, responded very quickly and immediately responded to the disaster.

“We know there is a fire, emergency measures are being taken and the situation is improving. At the moment, I can’t say much more,” he said.

There are more news on social media, including videos and locations. According to netizens, the incident took place in Stary Krym in the Kirorvsky district. The flames soared into the sky, and there was a continuous explosion.

There are two theories about the cause of the fire. The Gray Zone Telegram suggested that it was the result of a Ukrainian “Storm Shadow” missile strike, but this has not been confirmed by Ukrainian officials. The Ukrainian uprising group Atesh in Crimea also celebrated the fire but clarified that it had nothing to do with them. Aksenov, Russia’s designated governor of the Crimea region, said it was an accident caused by military training.
