Exploring Unusual Beauty: The Art of Emirati Photographer Faisal Al Rayes

Emirati photographer and conceptual artist Faisal Al Rayes, through his unique work, seeks to inspire others to look more deeply into the details of the world around them, and to discover beauty in unusual places.

Al-Rayes does his best to prove that photography is capable of artistic expression, like other arts, such as painting or sculpture, using light and emotion to capture exceptional images, as in his latest work, “Behind the Glass.”

Faisal Al-Rayes indicates that his relationship with the art of photography began at a young age, as photographs were among the distinguishing features in his home and within the surroundings of his family, which loves arts and photography in particular. He stops moving his lens in all directions, cities and streets, documenting exceptional moments and drawing feelings in a snapshot that remains through time.

And about his recent participation in the “Made in Tashkeel 2023” exhibition, Al-Rayes told Al-Bayan: I am proud of my presence among a group of local artists and creators in the largest session in the history of the Tashkeel Art Center, as it includes a display of 350 works with the participation of 25 Emirati artists, and emerging talents from more than 30 Nationality, in addition to the works of veterans of the Center’s old members, trainers, resident artists, participants in art workshops, and former exhibitors.

Philosophical insights

With regard to his latest work, which was shown within the gallery halls, Al-Rayes says: Street photography is part of my artistic interests, as it actually conveys the reality of people without my intervention as a photographer. El-Rayes, who is influenced by the work of American street photographer Vivian Maier and often draws his inspiration from nature, explains that “behind the glass” refers to the borders or walls that stand between people in their societies.
