Exploring Père-Lachaise: Rob Kemps’ Heaven on Earth Book Review and Competition

In the book Heaven on earth Rob Kemps takes you to Paris, to the 20th arrondissement. There is the place he loves most: Père-Lachaise, the most famous cemetery in France and perhaps in the world.

He talks about the American writer Gertrude Stein, known from Woody Allen’s film Midnight in Paris. Rob visits her house at the Jardin du Luxembourg, which grew into an artistic salon where Picasso and Hemingway were popular. He takes you to the final resting place of Victor Noir, the critical French journalist who was shot dead when he was 21. The bronze statue on his grave became a fertility symbol and is still touched by visitors every day.

Rob Kemps also visits the grave of the Dutch painter Karel Appel, and of Georges Rodenbach, the Belgian writer and poet with the most beautiful grave on Père-Lachaise. And of course Édith Piaf: her grave has become a place of pilgrimage for her countless fans. But unknown stories are also discussed.

Answer the competition and have a chance to win the book Heaven on earth from Rob Kemps!

(The competition runs until November 22, 2023)
