Exploring Macau as a Female Solo Traveler: Embracing and Conquering Loneliness

Jakarta

For many travelers, exploring the world by visiting the corners of the destination will give you lots of new experiences. This is my experience in Macau.

Honestly, many questions arise when looking at female solo travelers. Isn’t it lonely exploring alone? Because most traveler characters are flamboyant and cheerful.

Then, I had the opportunity to explore alone, not exactly alone, because this opportunity was given to me by a relative who was on a business trip in Macau.

Explore exclusive places, drive alone, eat alone, get lost alone, and stay in the most luxurious hotels. In reality Macau is a very frenetic city with many gambling houses that are very famous throughout the world.

I started walking down the street at the ruins of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Paul admired the Portuguese colonial architecture of Senado Square, soaked up the horrors at the Fartaleza do Monte Museum and enjoyed the city’s landmark Macau Tower.

It turns out there are so many things I can do to stop the loneliness that can ruin a trip. Then I continued my journey to the islands around Macau, namely Coloane Island and Taipa.

I felt new places more deeply, absorbed them, enjoyed them and since then I can proudly say I made friends with the feeling of loneliness, I don’t run away from it anymore, I embrace it and sink it into my skin.

Loneliness unravels my mind which starts to get messy, every now and then I find that I don’t miss someone as much as I should, I start to answer the questions I was too afraid to ask.

Loneliness taught me how I like to spend my time, reward myself for perseverance, I learned to love it, I am responsible for my own decisions, and responsible for my travel budget.

Loneliness teaches independence, I even learned to love loneliness and became addicted to it.
