Kochi> Advocate Salim Cholamukhat explained the impasse in the High Court order to return the money seized by the vigilance from the house of Muslim League leader KM Shaji in the case of illegal acquisition of property. The explanation comes after the social media spread that KM Shaji was acquitted in the case. Adv Salim Cholamukat said that the Vigilance has not backed down from the allegation that KM Shaji acquired wealth beyond his income and the High Court has not quashed the case. The High Court directed to release the Rs 47.35 lakh seized from the Kannur Azhik house in the name of Shaji’s wife on the basis of a bank guarantee. The order held that the amount should not be withheld until the trial is completed. The vigilance raid was conducted in the case that KM Shaji took a bribe of Rs 25 lakh to allow Plus Two in Azhikode school. Shaji’s argument was that the seized amount was received as election fund. The Special Vigilance Court of Kozhikode rejected Shaji’s petition seeking the return of the money. Read on deshabhimani.com
