Expatriate in the USA, a gymnast from Mons wins the biggest international competition in the Caribbean

The teenager might dream of the Olympics but decided to live out her passion without pressure.

Would the future Simone Biles be from Mons? Alice Mahieu lives her passion without wanting to put pressure on herself. But the 13-year-old seems to have the shoulders and the talent to go the extra mile and make a name for herself in the gymnastics world. An expatriate in the USA, the latter has indeed just climbed to the first step of the podium at the Atlantis Crown, the largest international competition in the Caribbean, organized each year in the Bahamas.

You might as well write that those close to the young prodigy are proud of these results. Starting with her dad, Geoffrey Mahieu, mental coach recognized by the USA for his exceptional skills. “She finished first on vault and floor, second on uneven bars and fifth on beam”, he explains. “Overall, she finished first in her category. She was quite disappointed with the ratings obtained but the judges were obviously very severe and the competition was tough. “
