More smart solar panels next year
The first sunscreen pole in the region has been installed at the beach entrance in Hoek van Holland since last year. Now you will also find two poles in Rotterdam.
The municipality of Rotterdam and the region has an above-average amount of skin cancer. In Rotterdam this is even 37% higher than the Dutch average. It is therefore important that residents in our region protect themselves well against the sun. Next year we want to install more solar panels throughout the city. For the people who forgot, but also for the people who may not have the money to buy sunscreen.
These first two piles are a pilot and have already been placed to see how the experience is with them, how often they are used and when they are mainly used. These ‘smart’ sunscreen poles can measure things such as use, temperature, UV index, but also humidity, wind chill and cloudiness. Everything we learn from this we can use in our UV protection approach next year.
