Exhibition of works marked by a massacre on October 7

Beit Yigal Alon and the Council for the Preservation of Sites, in cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage, invite the public to visitHeart break” – a new exhibition of the works of artists from Ashkelon and surrounding Gaza, in an exciting connection with the artists of the Galilee.

The exhibition expresses the events of Black Saturday of October 7, reveals the loss of personal and collective security and touches on the personal experience of each artist through works of painting, poetry, photography and sculpture. All proceeds from the sale of the works will be transferred to the artists.

The exhibition “Chevron Lev” is an initiative of the curator Yael Nitzan, together with the Ashkelon Artists Association and in collaboration with artists from Gaza, who were looking for a place to present works created following the national disaster that befell us and inspired by it. About 30 artists participate in the exhibition, of which 23 are from Ashkelon and the Gaza Strip and 7 are residents of the Galilee. The exhibition was curated by Miki Banai, chairman of the Ashkelon Artists Association and former head of the arts department at the Ministry of Education, curator Yael Nitzan and graphic designer Inbal Kurtz.

Miki Banai, chairman of the association: “With great pain and tears, and through the artistic work, we were exposed to a work that reflects the fear and the cry, the feelings and emotions created in a vague space and a chaotic time. Some artists look for the light in the darkness, and the others the hope in the despair. At the same time, many works strengthen the national spirit, give comfort and hope for a better future and express the dream of living freely in this country.”

Danny Zamir, CEO of Beit Yigal Alon: “A mutual national guarantee is one of the most important values these days. After the massacre, we made a decision to open the house gates free of charge to many families of evacuees from the north and the south. In addition, we opened an elementary school in the museum for kibbutz students from the Western Galilee, and now we are happy to launch another project – the important exhibition that will be shown in the gallery, with an investment of tens of thousands of shekels on behalf of the house and our important partners – the Council for the Preservation of Sites and the Ministry of Heritage – to whom we thank. The sale of the works will help the necessary livelihood of the artists, and we hope that a large audience will come and respect them.”

Omri Shalmon, CEO of the Council for the Preservation of Sites: “In such complex and difficult days of war, with everything that is going through the State of Israel and the people of Israel – the soldiers fighting on the front, the residents of Otaf Israel in the south and north who were forced to leave their homes and the many thousands who volunteer to help – the ability to illuminate the The situation and giving more expression to reality and feelings through art is part of the greatness of society, community and country. The Council for the Preservation of Heritage Sites in Israel – through its employees, activists and volunteers – naturally joined the blessed initiative of the artists of the south and Yigal Alon House in Ginosar, and assisted in the production of the exhibition, which is not unique these days and which is part of the journey we are all on.”
