Neuchâtel’s local mountain not only has a venerable cable car, but also a bold lookout tower from a hundred years ago.

If you want to set off on this excursion, it would be wise to take a look at your wallet at home. Because without change, travelers are denied the highlight: The turnstile can only be moved after an ancient machine has been fed with a Franking machine.

Time-honored station
The Chaumont plays the same role for Neuchâtel as the Gurten does for Bern. The mountain ridge with the town on the lake at its feet and the high valley of the Val de Ruz in the back is also a local mountain, and a cable car overcomes the gradient from the town up to the heights of the Jura. It has been doing it since 1910.
