Exclusive Look at Dragon’s Dogma 2: New Features and Release Date Revealed by IGN

IGN journalists continue to publish exclusive materials on Dragon’s Dogma 2 from Capcom. The next video with the participation of the developers was dedicated to the pawn system – local party members who help the player on his journey.

In the sequel, the mechanics at a basic level remain the same: the player either hires a pawn or creates his own. The NPC is then sent to the “cloud” and becomes available for other players to recruit into the party.

Pawns are hired in a special location called The Rift. NPCs accepted into the group have equipment and knowledge about various quests and points of interest on the map. They will inherit this knowledge after playing with the previous “owner”.

In a conversation with IGN, director Hideaki Itsuno said that pawns and NPCs in general in Dragon’s Dogma 2 implemented at a higher quality level. They have gotten smarter about directing the player to quests and points of interest. The developer says that the pawns serve as a replacement for the interface and map.

We wanted it to feel like a friend who’s already played the game is sitting next to you and giving you advice.

We wanted to avoid putting too many markers and things like that on the screen as much as possible. We didn’t want too much to spoil the players’ mood, so we went to great lengths to ensure that pawns and NPCs were your only guides in the world.

Pawns in the sequel Dragon’s Dogma will also inherit the original’s Inclinations system. The player can choose to make the pawn kind-hearted, calm, simple, or straightforward. These characteristics will dictate the NPC’s behavior in battle.

New products will include specializations that can be assigned to pawns. For example, they will be able to translate the language of the elves, heal others, and much more.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 releases March 22, 2024 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game will receive Russian subtitles.
